Good VS Bad Website Smackdown
For today's blog I decided to explore two travel websites. One (Airbnb) has a great website design and another (Ryanair) needs some further editing. When it comes to travel, a good website can make or break the experience before your journey even begins. Further, in my smackdown, you will be able to see what are some of the main differences between those two websites that can be a big deal when it comes to sales. Here is the quick summary of the two websites:
Airbnb
Airbnb’s website is a great example of an easy navigable and target audience tailored design. From the moment you land on the page, the purpose is clear: find the perfect place to stay or experience something unique. The clean, modern design, paired with high-quality images, makes the experience functional and enjoyable. With intuitive navigation, helpful filters, and a map view, users can seamlessly book accommodations without too much effort. It’s a site that understands its audience and delivers relevant, original content at every click, ensuring you’re never more than three steps away from what you’re looking for.
Ryanair
On the flip side, we have Ryanair, a site that seems to have missed the importance of the user’s experience. While it’s clear the goal is to book flights, the cluttered design, endless ads, and constant pop-ups make it feel more like an obstacle course than a travel platform. The navigation needs to be more intuitive. It leaves users frustrated as they navigate upsell after upsell just to book a ticket (that’s what the reviews say). The aesthetic of the website is a little outdated which can overshadow even the most affordable deals.
Great websites are like smooth journeys—they get you where you need to go without unnecessary detours. The contrast between Airbnb and Ryanair shows us what happens when design doesn’t prioritize the user.
